Aquapark in Sochi

Sochi |2018

The Sochi Aquapark project involves the redevelopment of an unfinished commercial, entertainment, and residential complex on the main street of Sochi — Kurortny Avenue. The intricate technology for the pools and attractions is integrated within the existing structures, minimizing the need for demolition. The building is situated on a site with a 10-meter elevation change. The main facade is oriented towards the avenue, positioned at the lowest part of the site. It features terraces with pools and stained glass windows in the public spaces of the aquapark. A defining feature of the spatial design is the integration of water attractions. Some of these elements extend through the exterior wall, creating a complex arrangement of loops on the facade. The most striking architectural concept is the "Octopus" design, where the textured facade surfaces, adorned with multiple "suckers," mimic the form of an octopus. However, the winning design is "Chameleon," featuring cladding panels that shift in color from purple to green and blue depending on the weather and lighting conditions.
